Team 1 4th Place Div4A
IDK1, hereby referred to as nothing but “IDK” came into ETF2L Season 9 with hopes of finishing in the top two. We had certainly shown promise throughout all of our PCWs, and everyone must’ve known we were capable of much more than the fourth place result.
Unfortunately, the start of the season was probably the worst start of any team in our division. Nobody seemed prepared to play the first official, as the team encountered many problems against an opponent we’d smashed in practice. Not to put the blame on anyone, but some people didn’t show up, someone had internet problems, and someone’s steam wouldn’t update, which forced us to play rather shorthanded as our opponent would not allow a merc.
Following the departure of XO from IDK, we knew we had to shake up the lineup a little bit, thus the additions of Weiman and Waebi. Both played well and paid immediate dividends as we were able to 6-0 the next two opponents with relative ease.
After the first three weeks, IDK sat atop the division with 12 points. Then we ran into our toughest two opponents on our worst map, ctf_turbine. Nobody from the team will probably say it, but we didn’t practice turbine close to enough, and it was evident as our play was riddled with mistakes, although we did nearly take a point off eventual second place finisher LagTastic Gaming, when they beat us to cap the fifth intel by about 3 seconds.
About this time, fresh had gotten tired of maining scout as he was promised a backup role (thanks much mate), and thus a new scout was needed. In comes Xiu. Xiu, like Weiman and Waebi, provided a bit of a spark that allowed us to finish a strong 17-1 to finish the last three games out. Unfortunately, despite our strong finish, we still finished five points out of a promotion to Division 3, and two points behind EYECANDY, the team we lost to in the first week yet smoked in every PCW we’ve played against them.
It was definitely a good run – the team had managed to stay focused despite trials and tribulations with some players (Askior rings to mind – good player, never focused). There never seemed to be a bout of prolonged arguing, something that has plagued every team I’ve previously been on. We were definitely a great team, one that could rise quickly through the divisions, we just had some issues with consistency, and, because of our terrible first game, did not get promoted.

From the first time we saw our division on etf2l, we knew we had a good chance of achieving a high finish, we were fairly confident after a 4th place in wireplay with very little practise.
We began with a few roster changes, we brought in Geass and Mattdog to strengten the roster and spent a lot more time going over maps and doing pcw's.
We started the season perfectly with 2 nice 8 minute rolls against Science!, we then carried this form on with a shutout on Gravelpit and a 6 minute roll against Stormtroop.
Then we were forced to play our worst map Turbine, we hadnt spent enough time practising the map and were punished for this against We Play Naked,we tried to control the middle but kept letting scouts behind for easy caps, this would be our only lost map of the season but we then responded with a 6-1 victory on granary.
At this point, we were sitting second in our division but knew we only had to keep winning to pull it back, we spent sometime on turbine prior to our second game on it, and played a lot better and got a win because of it.
We then had a tough finish to the season, we had to play the 3rd place team and the team who were currently 1st in the last 3 games, We had played Dutchnet in wireplay where we had drawn and we really wanted to pull a win out to show that we had improved, We did this with a quick roll on badlands before running a very unorthodox tactic on gullywash, where we decided to change Wolf from solider to spy, and then switch Matt from scout to solider, this seemed to work well, as we pulled off another 5-0 and this put us top of the division due to other teams slipping up.
We then had an default win over the bottom team, as they suddenly told us 5 minutes before the game they couldnt be bothered to play, and they would rather play a pcw than waste their time getting rolled.
We then came to our final game, we knew we just had to win one map to finish top, and everyone was a little nervous.
We started off slowly getting pushed back to last on bazillion before wiping them and pushing to their last for the first round win.
We then found our confidence again and controlled the match for the majority, we went on to win 4-0 although it was a our first game that lasted the full time, this was due to a mixture of nerves and bazillion not being our best map.
We then moved on to badlands, although we knew we had already won the division we still wanted to win again, although we did play a little bit more relaxed, I ran with bonk the entire game and had a lot of time offclassing, this didnt affect the result though and we won 5-0
A very good first season in etf2l, and now with our stronger roster we are working toward a div4 spot next season, just wanna say thanks to everyone who played and merced for us along the way.
Good job everyone (Apart from dragon, should do better) lets see how next season pans out, maybe team 1 will actually win something (
